R.I.P. Bettie

Hello fellow bloggers. Still adjusting to the new job and the lengthy commute, but I'm going to make an effort to post what I can. Here's a quick doodle of the late Bettie Page, who died earlier today. Did this tonight in Sketchbook Pro.

Rise of the Cephalopods

It's actually not a shark this time! To mix things up a bit, here's Chris and his sea creature of choice--the octopus, in action. This is my first illustration I've done from start to finish in Flash.



Speaking of Octopi, Goeblins has done it again. If you haven't watched it yet, check out "Oktapodi" on youtube. Here is a link to the short film's website which includes an impressive making-of demo reel and a wonderful gallery of concept art. It's very inspiring work and I hope you all enjoy it.

Weekly Witches

I've decided to go with weekly themes for myself so I can tackle narrative drawings/character designs, possibly layouts, etc. when at my job at the caricature booth. Here are a couple of loose sketches from this week's theme (Witches)...

I was first inspired to do some witch sketches after I observed the following scenario from my perch at Downtown Disney...



Well...not exactly. I did see an elderly lady on a scooter wearing a gigantic witch hat, however, and was inspired.


The witch character I designed is a tad younger and cuter than the scooter witch...



But equally mischievous, getting into trouble with swamp monsters and all.

Yes, Another Shark...

Greetings all. Here is a concept sketch of "Kahn" the tiger shark, my latest joint project with the very talented (and patient) Chris Silva. I basically tried to maintain a boxy, angular, but cartoony look for the character. Please refer to his blog for Kahn's 3D incarnation...His model is looking pretty awesome, and I'm sure it will look even more amazing after it's textured.

I did a doodle of a pirate shark (or ShARRRk) the other day in celebration of shark week. I decided to throw some colors on it in painter when I got home and the result is as follows:



Not quite what I'd call a finished piece, but it was a fun little doodle. Happy belated shark week, everyone.
